The Air Jordan 14 Doernbecher is a special colorway of Michael Jordan’s fourteenth signature shoe created by patient Ethan Ellis as part of the annual Doernbecher Freestyle Collection. The beloved series designed by patients at the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon has produced some of the most memorable Air Jordan designs within the line’s storied history, and this remixed version of the Jordan 14 is certainly no different. The upper features black nubuck covering the toe, collar, and part of the mid-panel, while a purple synthetic material with a crinkled texture on the midfoot and heel is a nod to the TCU Horned Frogs, Ethan’s favorite college team. He also includes personal details like the number of heart surgeries he’d endured, the city of his heart transplant, the names of the hospitals where he’s received care and the name of a patient he befriended that went through a similar treatment. Even more special details include the Seattle Space Needle on the left shoe’s heel, a water droplet texture on the midsole, and “EE” replacing the Jumpman on the ankle logo badges. The Air Jordan 14 Doernbecher was released on December 7, 2019.
