Being awarded the honour of being anointed 2015’s ‘Shoe of the Year’ at the Footwear News 29th Annual Achievement Awards, Kanye West has proven himself to be a designer at the forefront of trainer meta. First seen on Kanye and his models at the Yeezy Season 1 fashion show in February 2015, the Yeezy Boost 350 Turtle Dove was the second shoe released in the Adidas Yeezy collection after the Yeezy Boost 750 OG, and no one can argue its groundbreaking ethos and design features that debuted have changed the trainer landscape irreversibly. The t-shirt for your feet mantra that has been instilled through Kanye West’s collaboration with Adidas is on display for all to see in this creation, and in many ways started the trend; soft Primeknit is utilised on the upper which showcases a gradient effect of black and off-white. A set of integrated rope laces are included, and a spiralled tubular sole sits underfoot. To complete the design, a subtle touch of red is stamped to the heel pull. This shoe is a piece of history, a trendsetter, a trailblazer, and everything that came after the Turtle Dove has it to thank for being the Yeezy equivalent of the first man on the moon.
